The National Air Duct Cleaning Association recognizes the "Source Removal" method as the only acceptable way to properly clean and decontaminate air duct systems.

There are three methods of cleaning the inside of the ductwork. The first method is for a homeowner to use a portable vacuum cleaner inside each register. This method cleans about 10% of the duct system.

The second and third methods of cleaning the duct system are what most duct cleaning companies do. The second method is to use a special hand held vacuum system which cleans between 50%-75% of the duct system. Many ''less expensive'' companies utilize this method because the equipment (vacuum) is cheaper to purchase and the time it takes to clean the duct system is less.  As a result, companies that use this second method of cleaning duct systems charge less then companies that utilize the preferred method of cleaning duct systems.

The third and preferred method of cleaning the duct system is to use a high-powered vacuum which is located on a duct cleaning truck or trailer, high capacity duct cleaning hoses, and compressed air. This method cleans 99% of the duct system.

Fresh Air Duct Cleaning Company Utilizes this third and preferred method of cleaning duct systems. The following are the steps we take to insure that you have a properly cleaned duct system:

1. We turn the furnace blower/air handler on and off to make sure that it is running properly.

2. The furnace filter/air cleaner filtration system is removed and wrapped in a protective material. It is then reinstalled. This separates the supply side from the return side.

3. An 8 and 12 hole is cut in the main trunk line near the plenum. A zone bag is then inflated in the duct between the access hole and the plenum. This helps insure a strong vacuum and negative pressure on the system.

4. We then install the vacuum hose to the hole.

5. We seal each register to provide a better vacuum.

6. Then we turn on the powerful external vacuum.

7. We then go to each register and use air compression to move debris down towards the trunk line. Sometimes we use Viper whips at low medium or high pressure to move the debris.

8. Then we go to the trunk line and insert the Viper whip into the trunk line. This loosens any caked on debris that lines the inside walls of the trunk line.

9. We repeat this process for the return side.

10. Next we vacuum the coil.

11. After the system is cleaned an EPA registered air duct sanitizer may be applied. While the system is still under negative pressure, the sanitizer is sprayed into each register with an Ultra Low Volume Fogger.

12. Once the system has been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized all registers are reinstalled and all access holes are patched with sheet metal.
